Transition and Transition Assessments:

These can be confusing terms!

Transition:

This term refers to the process of the student figuring out what what he or she would like to do in his or her life and where they can be trained for this job.  Parents and Special Education students must be provided transition information before entrance to high school to facilitate planning and to prepare and design an IEP. Transition will be discussed at each IEP meeting.  Transition just means preparation for the change from parents being responsible for the student's future to the student being responsible for their own future.

Transition Assessment:

These are just tests taken by the students that are used to gain an understanding of what talents, skills, interests, preferences, and strengths each student has and how they can use them to provide a living for themselves after training.  The results of these tests will be documented on an IEP and used to drive instruction and determine what classes each student needs to take to reach their vocational goals.
